Gaithersburg, Maryland



The City of
Gaithersburg is 10 square miles in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. Gaithersburg is 15 miles North of Washington DC.
Gaithersburg was originally dubbed Log Town in 1765. It wasn't but a few years before the settlement was renamed, Gaithersburg.



The local post office was named Forest Oak, now the name of a middle school located in
Gaithersburg, MD
. It wasn't until a railroad station was built in what is now known as Old Town, that Gaitherburg really started to see some growth, in 1873.

About 5 years later, the City of Gaithersburg incorporated.



 

Gaithersburg is home to many industries such as biotechnology, telecommunications, and software development. Because of Gaithersburg's proximity to Washington DC and these major industries, the City hosts many visitors, both foreign and domestic.

Throughout the year, the City sponsors many cultural events. During the spring and summer months, the City Hall Pavilion hosts various musical and theater groups, movies, and other special events. Art exhibits are located in various City facilities year round.

Gaithersburg also hosts the Celebrate Gaithersburg in Olde Towne Street Festival where residents gather on the streets of Olde Towne Gaithersburg to enjoy good food, arts and crafts, and a variety of family entertainment while celebrating the City's heritage.

Winter Lights is an extraordinary light display held every year in Seneca Creek State Park. To celebrate the holidays, people from all over come to see hundreds of holiday images created by colorful lights along a 3.5 mile drive.
